Founder & Lead Designer

Suzannah Codlin is an artist with a passion for architecture. With 20 years of progressive experience in the fields of architecture and construction, she leads Lauren Mason Design with a focus on exceptional client service. With a strong design, interpersonal and communication skills, Suzannah can get to the root of clients' ideas and help clients fully develop a vision for their projects. Whether it is a small kitchen remodel or a $1,000,000 whole house renovation, the same attention to detail comes into play. With a strong sense of aesthetics and a penchant for masterful design, Sue has developed an architectural design practice which is truly client-focused and integrity based. Suzannah wants every client's project to be a success and is highly responsive and will disclose any constraints upfront to allow for a smooth design and building permit process.Suzannah has called the DC area home since 1998. She graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree (Suma Cum Laude). Upon completion of formal training, she worked in the private sector as an Intern Architect. She then entered the field of Construction Management on a project for the DC Government. While there, she worked on small capital component replacement and projects as well as large school modernization projects valued over $30,000,000. In 2008, she founded ARC Builders, a DC-based General Contracting company which exists in parallel to Lauren Mason Design. Suzannah is well respected among her clients and fellow design professionals within the Washington DC area. She continues to offer aesthetically pleasing design solutions and excellent client service based on principles of integrity and empathy.

Our Process

Your Ideas

Your home remodel or addition project begins with your ideas. During this discovery phase, we’ll sit down with you to discuss your ideas, inspirations and goals for your home. Our team will help you to establish a realistic budget and preliminary scope of work.

Project Initiation

We will submit a detailed proposal to you and establish a formal contract for services. The contract will reflect your preliminary budget, desired scope of work and identify any known design constraints.

3D Designs

Our design team goes to work to develop and design ideas that manifest your desires and our expertise. We will present you with floor plans and 3D color renderings that reflect your developed design. You will know what your project will look like before the drawings are moved into the permit phase..

Engineering Designs

The design is further developed by our experienced team of consulting engineers who handle structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and civil engineering drawings as needed.

Permit(s)

We submit fully developed design drawings to the city or County for building permit. Our expeditor will handle every interaction with the permit office to facilitate timely issuance of building permits.

Construction

Once the permit is issued, we further refine the construction schedule and budget and finalize a mobilization date for construction. If needed, we can connect our clients with moving vendors who provide concierge style service to assist with packing and moving prior to construction.

Project Tracking

During construction, clients are welcomed to tour the site and review progress on a weekly basis. They may also review daily progress, schedule updates and look ahead details via our online construction project management system accessible from an app on your smart device.

Handover

Upon substantial Completion, we will perform a thorough walk-through and ensure your total satisfaction with the finished product. We will make any touch ups as needed (per contract) and answer any questions you may have. We will take the time to go over operation procedures and installed equipment and present our 1-year warranty.
